‘We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.’ - Aristotle
Daily rituals are where the power resides in a step-by-step process to get you to where you want to be.
After all, you can plan for the future, but you can only take charge of the present moment.
So take positive steps today towards your desired outcome and know that you will have everything you need in each moment that follows.
Daily rituals will help you get there by just focusing on getting 1% better in whatever you’re trying to improve. I’ve learnt that all successful CEO’s, artists, writers, sports stars and entrepreneurs live by daily rituals.
These are mine – wake up and smell the ritual - I hope you find them helpful:
1. Get up early – a great day starts with the night before – so have a good night’s sleep in a darkened bedroom. Sleep is a form of meditation anyway so remove any screens from your bedroom at least 90 minutes before your head hits the pillow - they are known to interfere with sleep patterns. Every type of tissue and system in the body including the brain, the heart and the lungs are affected by the quality of your sleep - even a healthy metabolism, your immune system and a happier mood are all affected by your quality of a nights sleep. So make sure you get quality sleep and wake-up refreshed to seize the day! Also take at least three 20 minute naps a week if needed if you can @mid-afternoon to boost your immunity and increase your alertness, productivity and cognitive performance - do not feel guilty this is a proven healthy ritual. Also skin brush your body before a refreshing shower - it stimulates your circulation, refreshes the skin and energises your body.
‘I’m always in a hurry to get going, though in general I dislike starting the day.’ - Simone de Beauvoir
2. Meditate and breath - a 20 minute meditation practice early morning and evening allows you to get access to your deeper self and opens your mind to better ideas, better decision making, improves concentration and nurtures courage and resilience in the face of any setbacks and puts you in a more positive frame of mind. Please read my full blog on the importance of meditation: https://www.janefuller.co.uk/blog/2017/9/4/meditation-in-nature. Also Visualise and say Affirmations which are all calming rituals to optimise your basic routine. They help you focus on what you want to achieve and get you inspired.
‘We are not designed to live in survival mode. Our bodies need safety. Our souls need rest.’ - Deepak Chopra
3. Exercise and stretch. Preferably outdoors in nature where you can feel the sunshine whenever possible during the day and connect to the earth, nature and the universe by taking a wonderful 45 minute walk. You’ll come back refreshed and inspired. Not only is this good for your body but is as important for the mind too. Remember an early morning walk is a blessing for the whole day. And drink more water - at least 8 glasses a day - dehydration happens in the body and brain.
4. Make some refreshing tea/coffee in a bone china cup and prepare a nutritious breakfast. You cannot heal a polluted body. So feed and hydrate your body with good nutritious food and lose that extra weight that energetically weighs you down. You want to be your second best?
‘Smile in the mirror. Do that every morning and you’ll start to see a big difference in your life.’ - Yoko Ono
5. Inspiration is everywhere. Carry a notebook or use your mobile and write/photograph anything that inspires you - be it a tree, flower, work of art, quote, monument, etc., and have frequent breaks to let your mind rest. This is where creativity and inspired thought happens. Use your imagination to consciously create the life you desire.
6. Focus on what you want and write it down. You will start doing things a little differently, ideas will come to you and you will make choices that will be in alignment with what you want. I find that the more I act on inspired thoughts, the faster I attract what I want. Momentum builds if you consistently focus on your want and keep moving towards it - the feeling of bubbling over with joy attracts more joy and the life you desire. The stronger your belief and passion, the faster you will get what you want. We are all blessed with spontaneous creativity. When we become conscious and aware of our unique talent, we can use this energy to create abundance. Being in awe of ourselves and all the possibilities around us can make us more abundant than someone who is prosperous and still complains about their misfortune……
‘Write/Say it to your heart that every day is the best day of the year.’ - Ralph Waldo Emerson
7. The most important factor in reaching any goal is to feel good now. Feel good about you. That way you are on the same vibrational frequency of what you want and are summoning it to you. Don’t allow faulty subconscious thinking to derail you. Remember, you have a superpower between your ears - use it. Again Affirmations and Visualisations help to reprogram your mind and will help to work towards what you want and practice every day……..Get very clear about what you want to achieve and write it down………
‘One small positive thought in the morning can change your whole day.’ - Arianna Huffington
8. Give thanks for all the great things that happened during your day. Gratitude is truly a miracle worker because it raises your energetic vibration towards all the good things in your life - the delicious supper you had, that lovely email from an old friend, that free coffee you received from your local grocer, the wonderful smile from your partner……joyful.
9. Declutter your space - even if it’s just a box or a drawer - just set aside 30 minutes and just do it - it’s amazing how good, uplifted and light you will feel and after a few days you will find you’ve cleared the whole cupboard. Just 1% at a time - throw out and recycle or donate to local charity shop……..bliss.
‘A daily ritual is a way of saying I’m voting for myself. I’m taking care of myself.’ - Mariel Hemingway
The juice of spirituality resides in our challenges. Instead of assuming the worst, choose to see upsets and setbacks as the energies of the Universe working a miracle in progress. Always remember the natural flow of abundance and well-being is your birthright – so let go and release any resistance.
Break out of your comfort zone. Remind yourself that you do have the courage to make a change. Everything you’ve been through in life has taught you how to cope and be strong in the face of the unknown. You’ve learned that being positive and having faith are necessary tools to overcome fear or disappointments. Take steps for this change, one at a time, and try not to look too far ahead, especially if this brings up anxiety for you. If you want something different you are going to have to do something different - you will never change your life until you change something you do daily. Remember, we live who we believe we are, so find yourself and be that. It’s a daily mindset ritual to make your day magical.
‘Mindset has to change to taste World Cup success.’ - Sir Clive Woodward
The Universe is just one energy field and we are all connected to it. Always remember you’re an energy field operating in a larger energy field. We are the infinite field of unfolding possibility. As a whole or individually we are one. There is only One of us. Everyone in your life is a reflection of you. Hurt others and you just hurt yourself. Love others and you love yourself. This is the great secret of life – the inner game of a vibrant energetic life – we are all one.
So step up and step-by-step open your heart and give love as a daily ritual to yourself and others – the world needs it now more than ever.
Have a magical month ahead.
